Egypt's national team coach Hector Cuper said he will try to make some changes in the team's playing style for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

"I agree that the team's style of playing doesn’t meet the fans' expectations, but that's what we needed in order to accomplish such an achievement as [qualifying for the World Cup], as well as positive results in the previous three years," Cuper said in the press conference ahead of the friendly game against Kuwait on Friday.

"I want to change our style, but if we lose to Uruguay by four goals, what will the fans' reaction be? I will try to make some changes," the 62 year-old Argentinean coach, who relies on a primarily defensive approach to the game, explained.

A week after Egypt's friendly against Kuwait, the Pharaohs will face Colombia in the Italian city of Bergamo and then will play against Belgium in Brussels on 6 June as part of preparations for the 2018 World Cup.

"We will play three friendlies with different football teams ahead of the World Cup," Cuper said, adding, "We are working to make use of the Kuwait, Colombia and Belgium friendly games in order to be ready for the 2018 World Cup finals."

"The main target of playing friendly games is to chose the final 23-player squad that will take part in the World Cup," he said.

In late March, Egypt lost to Portugal and Greece in two friendly matches held during their first training camp in Switzerland.

The Pharaohs, seven-time African champions, have reached the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

Egypt have been drawn in Group A alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Russia.

They will kick-off their World Cup campaign on 15 June upon locking horns with Uruguay, before facing hosts Russia four days later.

Their last group stage match will be against Saudi Arabia on 25 June.
