Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met on Friday with a number of top military commanders following weekly prayers at Moushir Tantawy Mosque in New Cairo.

The meeting came on the anniversary of Egypt’s victory over Israel in the 6 October war of 1973, which started on the 10th day in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan that year. The 10 Ramadan falls on Saturday this year.

"The Egyptian army's heroism has led to the great victory of the October war," El-Sisi told the commanders during the meeting, according to Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

"The men of the armed forces are a continuation of the October generation; they have been accomplishing their national duties with all devotion and sincerity through the plan to execute the comprehesive Operation Sinai 2018 to eradicate terrorism," El-Sisi said.

Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi, Minister of Military Production Mohamed El-Assar, and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Mohamed Farid attended the meeting.
