Egypt's Minister of Sports Khaled Abdel-Aziz has announced that Liverpool and Pharaohs winger Mohamed Salah needs only two weeks to recover from injury and he will be fit for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The 25-year-old Salah was forced off pitch with what appeared to be a shoulder injury in the 31st minute of Saturday's UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev.

Salah took a tumble following a challenge from Real captain Sergio Ramos and required treatment on the pitch although he came back on moments later. He then crumbled to the ground for a second time and was seen crying when he got up and then left the field to be replaced by Liverpool's England international Adam Lallana.

"The simple diagnosis of Salah's injury that he suffers from a sprain of the shoulder joint ligaments," read a statement released by Minister Abdel-Aziz on his Facebook page early Sunday.

"The estimated recovery time will be two weeks, God willing,"

"Liverpool medical staff are in contact with their counterparts in the Egypt national team and they sent to the latter a copy of the injury scan and the two sides agreed on the injury diagnosis as well as the recovery plan," the statement said.

"Salah will stay at Liverpool until finishing his treatment as well as completing his rehab before joining Egypt's national team camp in Italy when he takes the green light from doctors," the statement added.

"Mohamed Salah will join the Egyptian national team final squad, that will be announced 4 June, for the World Cup."

"Salah's faith, determination, persistence and patriotism will help to pass such a hard time quickly," Abdel-Aziz's statement added.

"Mohamed Salah will train on specialised machines to maintain his fitness, in order to be fit on time."

"Finally, I hope all best wishes for our star to recover, as well as success in leading Egypt's national team in the World Cup … Long live Egypt," the statement concluded.

Seven-time African champions Egypt this year reached the World Cup for the first time since 1990. They will play in Group A, alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and hosts Russia.

Egypt will kick-off their World Cup campaign 15 June against Uruguay, and then face hosts Russia on 19 June. Their final group stage match will be against Saudi Arabia on 25 June.
