The National Center for Translation has just released the Arabic translation of the French study, L'Amour dans la pensée de Søren Kierkegaard (Love in the thought of Soren Kirkegaard) by Chantal Anne. The book was translated by Mohamed Refaat Awaad and reviewed by Ibrahim Fathi.
Danish philosopher Kirkegaard (1813-1855) is widely considered to be one of the fathers of existentialism, his work foreshadowing many of the key themes of existentialist thought.
In this book, Anne seeks to analyse love from the perspective of Kirkegaard’s work, The subject is analysed through documents by Kirkegaard in which love was the central concern, and these constitute about a quarter of all his lifetime publications. Anne also analysed other works by Kirkegaard published under other pen-names.
It is interesting to note is that Kirkegaard considered love devoid of any physical desire, and to be in itself of little meaning, but rather deriving its meaning from the individual who is giving it.
