Mohamed Salah’s recovery from a shoulder injury is going well and he may be fit for Egypt’s opening World Cup clash against Uruguay, coach Hector Cuper said on Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of Egypt’s last World Cup warm-up against Belgium, Cuper said he hopes star winger Salah would be fit when the Pharaohs open their Group A campaign on 15 June in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.

Egyptian fans feared the worst when the 25-year-old was taken off in the first half of Liverpool's loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final on 26 May, having hurt his shoulder after tangling with Sergio Ramos for the ball.

Egyptian Football Association chief Hani Abou-Reida suggested last week that Salah was unlikely to feature against Uruguay but Cuper gave a more positive assessment during a news conference on Tuesday.

“Salah is recovering well from the injury. According to the information I got, he may be fit for the opening match against Uruguay,” the Argentinean boss said.

Salah also appeared in a high spirit on Sunday, posting a picture of him while exercising in a gymnasium in Spain under the caption “good feelings”.

He will link up with his teammates in Cairo on 9 June before the team fly to Russia to being their World Cup campaign.

The Pharaohs, who are winless in four pre-World Cup matches, face Belgium in Brussels in their last test before the tournament. They held Colombia to a 0-0 draw after surviving an onslaught in the Italian city of Bergamo last Saturday.

“Our match against Belgium is a very strong test, just like the one we had against Colombia,” Cuper added.
