Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said in a Facebook post on Friday that he is proud of the national football team’s performance during their first match in the 2018 World Cup.
"I am proud of the manly performance by the sons of the national team, and I believe in their capability to win the coming matches," the president said.
President El-Sisi made the post shortly after Egypt’s 1-0 defeat to Uruguay in their World Cup opener.
After a 28-year absence, Egypt made it to the 2018 World Cup after a narrow win over Congo last October, thanks to a double from star winger Mohamed Salah that included a stoppage-time penalty.
