A third round of the group exhibition "My Favorite Things" will open at Mashrabia Gallery starting 24 June, featuring the work of four female artists working with upcycled materials.

Kamila Bassioni, Rania Atef, Afrodite W. Elseesy, have previously taken part in the From Rags to Riches project, also curated by the Mashrabia Gallery, and are joined by artist Malika Hassan.

The first two editions of My Favorite Things also featured a selection of female artists, but this year the show spotlights upcycled artworks.

The works in the show are experiments with paper, cardboard, glass and wood, and together the artists complement each other to create a landscape of a city and forest.

According to the exhibition statement by Mashrabia, “Bassioni overlaps layers of paper to create safe abodes where one can dwell to find stability and solace, away from life’s disarray.

“Atef continues the imagined city by reviving consumed cardboard which she has shaped in piled-up houses and buildings. Elseesy’s melted and reshaped bottles make up a gleaming installation, where the shiny green recalls the wet leaves of trees.”

“Hassan intertwines trees branches and logs to make small tables, functional objects that allow the public to find balance between the comfort of home, the chaos of cities, and the sense of relief that can be found only in nature.”

The exhibition opens on 24 June at 7pm and will run till 19 July
Mashrabia Art Gallery, 8 Champollion Street, Downtown Cairo
