Egypt exited the World Cup on Wednesday after Uruguay ended their slim hopes with a 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in Group A.
A 23rd-minute goal from Luis Suarez was enough to give Uruguay a narrow win, which lifted his team to the round of 16 along with hosts Russia.
Egypt had a slim mathematical chance to advance to the knockout phase after suffering two straight defeats by Uruguay and Russia.
They needed both Saudi Arabia and Russia to overcome Uruguay to stand any chance of going through.
The Pharaohs will be now merely playing for pride when they face Saudi Arabia in their final group game on Monday in Volgograd.
They are making only their third World Cup appearance and their first since 1990.
