Egyptian authorities will close the Rafah border crossing with Gaza from 29 June to 1 July, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported on Thursday.

The Rafah crossing was opened during the entire month of Ramadan, which ended in mid June, upon orders from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

The president's orders came amid the killing of dozens of Palestinians by Israeli occupation forces during protests in Gaza against the moving of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Egyptian authorities also opened the Rafah crossing during the three-day Eid Al-Fitr holiday following Ramadan, and the crossing has been open since.

The Rafah border crossing is the main gateway to the outside world for 1.8 million Palestinians living in the Israeli-besieged Gaza Strip, and is the only crossing point not controlled by Israel.
