Tamer Hosny [L] and Amr Diab [R]
Egyptian popstars Tamer Hosny and Amr Diab have both been listed in this year’s Forbes "Arab Stars On The Global Stage", which came out this week.
The Forbes ranking includes 30 big names; the singers category begins with Lebanese diva Fairouz, named by Forbes as the "All Time Favourite" but not given a ranking, followed by 12 other Arab stars.
Tamer Hosny ranks second on the list of 13, after Kharbouch (known as French Montana), a Moroccan-American hip-hop artist.
Forbes writes that Hosny was "the first Arab star to get his hand and foot imprint at Hollywood’s iconic Chinese Theater, has performed in more than 15 concerts outside the Arab World since 2016.”
“He has collaborated with many global artists including Shaggy, Snoop Dogg, Akon and has recently released a duet with Jason Derulo for the Coca-Cola 2018 World Cup Song. He is also a member of the jury in The Voice Kids program in the Middle East since 2016."
Popularly known as “El Hadaba”, pop singer Amr Diab ranks ninth on the list.
Forbes describes Diab as "the only Middle Eastern artist to have received seven World Music Awards so far.”
“Considered the godfather of Mediterranean music, he has had five songs on the Billboard.
Diab was the first Middle Eastern artist to receive the golden button from YouTube celebrating one million subscribers on his channel.
Although Diab has a global fan base, his concerts have been largely in the UAE and Egypt over the last three years. Recently he performed at Nautilius Space in Russia and is slated to perform in Greece in July 2018."
Three other Egyptians made it onto the Arab Stars list, including director Abu Bakr Shawky, actor Amr Waked and the only footballer on the list, Mohamed Salah.
