Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is set to have a busy schedule on the sidelines of his visit to New York to attend the 73rd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings, which kicked off on Tuesday, Egyptian presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady said in a statement Friday.
El-Sisi, who left to New York today, is set to deliver a statement to the UNGA next week, which will address Egypt's vision to enhance the role of the United Nations, Rady said.
The Egyptian President will urge the world community to contain all armed conflicts, combat terrorism, push for denuclearization, and tackle economic concerns, added Rady.
El-Sisi is also set to head the high-level meeting of the Group of 77.
Egypt will chair this year’s meeting for the third time in the history of the group.
The Group of 77 at the United Nations is a coalition of developing nations designed to promote its members' collective economic interests and to better enable joint negotiations within the UN.
"El-Sisi will deliver Egypt's opening statement to the meeting, which will include a review of the Egyptian role in supporting the efforts of the group since its founding in the 1960s," the statement read.
The statement to the group of 77 will also highlight Egypt's position towards efforts to reform United Nations development strategies in order to strengthen its responses to the developmental needs of its state members.
The president is also scheduled to hold intensive bilateral meetings with US figures during his visit.
El-Sisi will meet with political and intellectual figures in the US; heads of major US companies and investment funds; and members of the American Chamber of Commerce.
El-Sisi is also expected to meet with various US congressmen to start a dialogue on ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
He will highlight to American officials the progress in the implementation of the country's economic reform program, which aims to encourage investment in Egypt; he will also discuss the state's vision for the role of the private sector in development, and review progress in the implementation of mega projects in Egypt.
Rady said El-Sisi will also meet with a number of heads of states and officials to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, and exchange views about developments in regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The President will also attend the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, which coincides with the centennial celebration of the late African leader's birth. El-Sisi is scheduled to deliver a speech at the summit.
