Ahly coach Patrice Carteron rued his team’s many missed chances in Tuesday’s 2-0 home win over Algeria’s ES Setif, adding that the road to the CAF Champions League final is not over yet.

Despite the comforting 2-0 victory in the first leg, The Reds missed a number of easy chances that would have made their mission a lot easier in the return match on 23 October.

“We had a lot of chances to score and the game was open, but our performance in the second half was not up to expectations,” the coach stated in the post-match press conference.

Carteron also said he was not very happy with the fact that the team were informed about the suspension of goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy and that the supporters would not be allowed in only few hours before the game.

Ekramy received a controversial suspension from the CAF after an incident with the paramedics during the quarterfinal first leg game against Guinea’s Horoya Conakry on 14 September. Ahly fans were not allowed to attend yesterday’s clash against ES Setif over their offensive chants in the return match against Horoya.

“I dedicate today’s victory to the Ahly fans who were not able to attend,” the French manager said.

Carteron also said that despite the comfortable victory, “We have not yet booked our seat in the final.”

The eight-time Africa champions Ahly will be targeting a second consecutive Champions League final when they meet ES Setif later this month.
