Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Saturday in Cairo with the chairman of the Bundestag's Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development Peter Ramsauer ways to boost trade, and economic and energy cooperation, a statement by presidential spokesman Bassam Rady read.
Saturday's meeting was attended by a delegation from Germany's Bundestag, Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Trade and Investement Amr Nassar, and the German Ambassador to Cairo.
Officials highlighted the strong ties between both countries and that Egypt is the third largest trading partner in the Middle East.
During the meeting, El-Sisi stressed Egypt's desire to "enhance the level of cooperation between the two countries in various fields in order to continue the process of distinguished relations on the basis of partnership and mutual interests."
Meanwhile, Ramsauer stressed the parliament's keenness on boosting bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, health, and empowerment of youth.
Illegal migration was also among the issues covered during the meeting.
El-Sisi emphasized that Egypt exerts strenuous efforts to face the problem of illegal migration through tightening security along its borders
He is expected to travel to Germany on Sunday for a four-day official to discuss cooperation in combating terrorism and illegal migration.
