Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed during a Saturday phone call with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte Egypt’s support to efforts related to reaching a political resolution to the Libyan crisis.
In an official statement, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said El-Sisi receoved a phone call from Conte, where they discussed the Libyan crisis and exchanged viewpoints on a number of regional issues of common interest.
According to the statement, El-Sisi accentuated Egypt’s position of adhering to the unity of Libyan lands and a support of its national institutions, as well as a respect to the will of the people, which contributes to the return of stability and security in the Middle East.
The phone call by Conte comes a few days ahead of an Italian hosted conference in Palermo, joining key political Libyan factions and other international partners in the latest bid to solve the continuing Libyan crisis and proceed with a plan to hold planned elections.
