Egypt’s Dar El-Shorouk Publishing House has released a new pocket-size edition of Naguib Mahfouz’s works to coincide with the 107th anniversary of the birth of the Egyptian Nobel laureate on 11 December.
The pocket-size editions will be 25 to 40 percent cheaper than the original sized books.
Ahmed Bedair, the managing publisher of the print house, said in a statement that all of Naguib Mahfouz’s works in Arabic are also now available in e-book form on Amazon, Google Books and Vodafone Kotobi. Some of the audio editions have also been released on Iqraaly.com
Shorouk has issued 16 of Mahfouz's works in the new pocket-size editions, including Sugar Street, Palace of Desire, Palace Walk, Midaq Ally, The Harafish and Miramar.
Bedair asserted that Shorouk is ensuring that all of Mahfouz’s works are available at all times in print and digital form. He also said that some of the titles have had up to 18 editions since Shorouk bought the rights of his works, and some have sold more than 750,000 copies.
