Egypt's foreign ministry has called for an end to the "escalation in Palestine and the prevention of any practices that would only lead to further deterioration of the situation and undermine all efforts to revive the peace process."
In a statement issued on Sunday, Egypt expressed its deep concern about the ongoing developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Israeli incursions into various parts of the West Bank, noting the possible repercussions of this escalation on the security situation in the West Bank and other Palestinian territories.
The statement also stressed Egypt's support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership.
"Egypt supports the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital," the statement said.
The statement stressed that Egypt is continuing to intensify its efforts to halt the escalation and to contain the tension based on its regional role to promote peace and stability in the region.
