Dancers from the Paris Opera House and the Cairo Opera House will stage a joint performance in Cairo and Alexandria next week to celebrate Egyptian-French connections and commemorate 150 years since the opening of the Suez Canal.
The performance, named Independanse, is directed by Gregory Gaillard, and is danced to the music of Florent Astrudeau. The dance evokes the Nile and its imagery.
Independanse will be performed by six dancers from the Paris Opera House and six from the Cairo Opera House, mixing contemporary with classical, and combining the styles and influences of the two groups of dancers.
The performances launch an initiative by the French Institute of Egypt to start a year of celebration of the Franco-Egyptian cultural friendship, celebrating milestones of the past and highlighting contemporary creation and exchanges in all artistic and intellectual fields.
Programme:
8 and 11 January at 8pm
Cairo Opera House, Zamalek, Cairo
9 and 10 January at 8pm
Alexandria Opera House, 18 El-Horreya Road, Raml Station, Alexandria
