The Palestinian cause is always a priority of Egypt’s foreign policy, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi told his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in a meeting in Cairo on Saturday.

In an official statement, El-Sisi’s spokesman Bassam Rady said El-Sisi stressed to Abbas Egypt’s continued efforts in retrieving Palestinians’ legitimate rights within international accords.

He affirmed Egypt’s striving with Palestinian sides to achieve national reconciliation, as well as working on overcoming all obstacles which might obstruct efforts to achieve the unity of the Palestinians.

Abbas stressed his appreciation of Egyptian efforts in achieving reconciliation between Palestinian factions, adding his keenness to continue consultations and coordination with Egypt on different issues of common interest.

Both presidents agreed on extensive coordination and consultation on next steps regarding Palestinian unity to contribute in achieving Palestinians’ hopes in ending division.

The meeting was attended by Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Egypt's intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, and the Palestinian envoy to Cairo.
