Egypt kept their hopes alive at the ongoing World Championship after claiming a narrow 22-20 win over Argentina on Monday.

Monday's win is the Pharaohs' first win at the World tournament after slumping two straight defeats against Sweden 27-24 and Qatar 28-23 respectively.

Egypt are now fourth in their group with two points from three games, three points behind leaders Hungary, who defeated Qatar 32-26 earlier in the day.

Sweden will have the chance to advance into the group summit if they defeat Angola later on Monday.

The first three teams in each group advance to the main round.

The Pharaohs produced an unconvincing performance during the first half, which ended 9-8 for Argentina, but they managed to overcome their opponents during the second half to win the game 22-20.

Egypt will have no choice but to win during their two remaining games in the tournament to reach the main round.

Egypt will face Hungary on Wednesday before ending their group stage campaign against Angola on Thursday.
