Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi will be in charge of Thursday's anticipated Egyptian premier league match between Zamalek and rivals Pyramids FC, according to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

The Whites will be hosting the league's new power in a postponed match from the ninth match day of the domestic competition.

Foreign officials are brought in to take charge of Pyramid's home matches upon the big-spending club's request.

A Tunisian refereeing crew and another from the UAE were respectively in charge of the Saudi-owned club's last two games in the Egyptian league.

The 45-year-old Rocchi, who began his career in 2000, is currently officiating matches in Italy's Serie A (the top Italian football league). He was in charge of three matches in the 2018 World Cup and two others at the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup.

Pyramids are now second on the league table with 38 points from 19 matches, three points behind leaders Zamalek, who still have three games in hand.
