40 families resettled after homes destroyed in Cairo rockslide

Forty families from Cairo’s Duweika neighborhood have been resettled to El-Asmarat district after a rockslide in the area left them homeless earlier today, according to Egypt's Ministry of Social Solidarity.

The ministry said in a statement that Minister Ghada Wali has instructed the social solidarity directorate in Cairo to give all necessary support and care to the families.

There have been no reported injuries or fatalities as a result of the rockslide.

Located at El-Muqattam hill in Cairo, Duweika is one of Egypt's most well-known informal housing areas.

In 2008, the Duweika area witnessed a rockslide that caused the deaths of 119 people and the injury of dozens more.
