Egyptian football team Pyramids FC filed an official complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday asking that the African football governing body take all necessary measures to guarantee the integrity of the Egyptian league and the Egyptian Cup.
The big spending club expressed their displeasure over the irregularity of the Egyptian League schedule this season, which has seen Pyramids play 20 games while rivals Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek have played only 16 and 18 games, respectively, so far in the competition.
Both Ahly and Zamalek have had many of the games delayed due to their participation in the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has decided that the delayed games from the first round will be played in the second round, including the Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek.
Pyramids FC believes that the decision compromises the integrity of the Egyptian league and gives their competitors an advantage, according to the club's letter to the CAF.
Pyramids are second on the league table with 39 points from 20 games, six points behind leaders Zamalek, who played 18 games more, and six points ahead of third-place Ahy, who played 16 games.
Pyramids, which is owned by wealthy Saudi national Turki Al-Sheikh, said that they cannot understand why the EFA has not yet determined the date of the clash between the club and Ahly in the Egypt Cup round of 16.
The Pyramids-Ahly awaited clash in the cup is the only remaining match in the competitions' round of 16.
Three games remain in the quarters, while Petrojet have already secured their place in the semi-finals.
"The Egyptian Cup match between our team and Ahly has not yet been scheduled, in spite of the ordinary format of the competition. In the current part of the season, when Ahly has many injured players, this is affecting our chances to progress in the competitions and is giving an unfair advantage to our competitor," Pyramids' letter said.
The club said that they have asked the EFA several times to remedy the situation by scheduling the league games missed by Ahly and Zamalek, though they have not received a response.
