Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Mohamed Idris, stressed the importance of combating sources of funding for terrorist groups as part of comprehensive counter-terrorism efforts at an unofficial Security Council meeting on Saturday.
Financing is the main tool which enables terrorist groups to continue their crimes, Idris said at an unofficial meeting of the council on combating the bankrolling of terrorism, which was organised by France.
During his speech, the diplomat spoke about the importance of indiscriminately fighting terrorism and not focusing the war against terror groups on one or two organisations alone.
He also called for firm action against the countries which run NGOs and relief organisations in order to receive donations for terrorist groups.
It is necessary to strengthen coordination at the national, regional and international levels to stand up to new measures taken by the terrorist groups to finance their terrorist acts, he added.
Idris also reviewed efforts exerted by Egypt to combat the funding of terrorist groups around the world.
