Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry travelled on Monday to Addis Ababa to take part in preliminary meetings of the African Union (AU) summit.

The minister will lead the Egyptian delegation in meetings of the African ministerial committees on Wednesday and the AU executive council at the level of foreign ministers on Feb. 7-8 in preparation for the 32nd African summit to be held on Feb. 10-11.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said the upcoming summit has special significance since Egypt will take over as president of the AU this year, expressing Cairo's keenness to work with African countries on the issues of regional integration, social and economic development, peace and security, among others.

Egypt's priorities will also include achieving AU institutional and financial reforms, building stronger bridges for cultural communication among African peoples and enhancing cooperation with all partners, Hafez added.
