Egypt's former veteran striker Hossam Hassan has been appointed as Smouha’s head coach, the president of the Alexandria-based club, Farag Amer, announced on Friday.

"Hossam Hassan is Smouha's new coach, while his twin Ibrahim is the new football director," Amer said on Facebook, without disclosing further details.

Hassan succeeds Smouha's third coach of the season, Adel Abdel-Rahman, who failed to impress in his four-match stint after the team lost twice and was held to a draw in two other matches.

On 24 January, former Ahly and Zamalek star Hassan was fired from his post as Pyramids FC coach after a 3-3 draw with league leaders Zamalek.

Under Hassan, 52, Pyramids had been held to five draws in 11 matches. Although they have been unbeaten since the bald coach took over in October, they lost ground in the title race.

Smouha will be the eighth club in the managerial career of Hassan, Egypt's all-time leading scorer, after Masry, Telecom Egypt, Zamalek, Ismaily, Maqassa, Ittihad of Alexandria and Pyramids.

Smouha are currently 12th in the Egyptian Premier League table with 25 points from 23 matches, 27 points behind leaders Zamalek who still have two matches in hand.
