The foreign ministers of Egypt Algeria, and Tunisia highlighted on Tuesday the importance of unifying the Libyan military establishment to achieve stability in the war-torn country, adding that they reject all forms of foreign interference, which only further complicates the crisis.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Algeria's Abdelkader Messahel and Tunisia's Khemais Jhinaoui met in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss the crisis in Libya.

A communiqué has also been issued by the three foreign ministers highlighting nine points of agreement on respecting the sovereignty, stability and security of neighbouring Libya. 

The communiqué highlighted that the three countries will continue their support of Libya and its people to help build the country’s institutions and contribute to its stability. 

The three ministers reiterated their rejections of any form of external interference in Libyan affairs. They also expressed their support for all political solutions that could be achieved through comprehensive dialogue until elections are held based on the 2015 Libyan political agreement. 

The Tunisian foreign minister said that the meeting in Cairo saw discussions on the latest political developments in Libya, including pushing for a peaceful solution to the ongoing crisis in the country.

He highlighted that the Libyan people are deteriorating economic conditions, and stressing the importance of seeking an internal Libyan solution without foreign interference. 

Jhinaoui affirmed the importance of supporting efforts by UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama.

Shoukry said that Libya's neighboring countries are exerting efforts to unify Libyan state institutions.

The Egyptian FM stressed that unifying the Libyan military establishment will serve to provide security and stability and secure the election process in the country.

Algeria’s foreign minister Abdelkader Messahel said that resolving the crisis has been difficult due to foreign interference, highlighting the importance of having a consolidated mechanism to solve the long-standing crisis to ensure the stability and security of neighbouring countries. 

The next meeting between the three ministers is set to be held in Tunisia, Messahel said.

Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia periodically meet to discuss the situation in Libya.
