Ahly ease-past Masry 2-0 in Egyptian league to move second

Ahly regained their winning rhythm in the Egyptian League on Thursday when they defeated Masry 2-0 at Alexandria's Mexx stadium.

The win fired  Ahly to the second place in the league table with 61 points, two points behind leaders Pyramids FC, who played two matches more.

Saleh Gomaa opened the scoring in the 31st minute while Ali Maaloul converted a penalty with 18 minutes remaining to confirm the win.

Ahly produced a fine performance from the start, with Ahly's Moroccan striker Walid Azaro coming close to opening the scoring in the 23rd minute but his effort from close range went wide.

Seven minutes later, Azaro sent a nice pass to Saleh Gomaa who scored easily from a close range.

Masry players failed to pose any threat during the first-half as they offensive elements were easily contained by Ahly's backline.

The second half was almost boring, with Ahly players content with their lead and Masry seeming incapable of threatening the visitors.

In the 72nd minute, Azaro made a sprint In a counter and gained a penalty after a harsh tackle from Masry defender Mahmoud Hamad inside the area.

Tunisian fullback Ali Maaloul converted from the spot to give his side a 2-0 lead.

Masry put pressure on Ahly during the remaining 18 minutes, but failed to score on three occasions.

However, Mahmoud Hamad close range header was denied by Ahly's keeper Ali Lotfi. Few minutes later Mahmoud Wadi back heel  touch was denied by the bar.

Omar Kamal missed a clear opportunity as his close-range shot was blocked by Lotfi.
