Lebanon is counting on Egypt and President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's role in backing regional cooperation to deal with the crucial challenges facing Arab countries, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Friday.

Lebanon relies on El-Sisi’s leadership because of his wisdom, and because of the role of Egypt, the largest country in the Arab region, Aoun added during his meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli at Babdaa Presidential Palace in Beirut, according to an Egyptian statement.

The Egyptian ministers of electricity, petroleum, manpower, communication and trade were present at the meeting, according to a statement issued by Egypt’s cabinet media office.

Egyptian-Lebanese relations are flawless as they are built on friendship and mutual interests, Aoun said, pointing to the ongoing efforts to expand fields of common interests.

Madbouli also expressed hope that activities of the bilateral higher committee would be successful.

The premier discussed the key issues tackled by the joint committee, along with agreements set to be signed by the two sides.
