Barcelona’s midfielder Seydou Keita is adamant Mali can still progress to the Nations Cup last eight despite slumping to a 2-0 loss to four-time African champions Ghana.
“We are frustrated at Ghana’s defeat but our hopes are still alive in the competition,” he said.
Mali lie third in Group D with three points, on level with Guinea who thrashed Botswana 6-1 on Saturday.
‘’We need just a victory against Botswana to secure our qualification for the quarter final. It will be not difficult at all,” Keita added.
Mali will be in a must-win situation against minnows Botswana if they are to book a last-eight berth. In that case, they will go through even if Guinea beat Ghana due to their superior head-to-head record.
