The hardcore supporters of Zamalek, the Ultras White Knights (UWK), have called for a truce with the Ultras Ahlawy of fellow Cairo club Ahly to avoid more "bloodshed."
“We are asking for an end to the bloodshed and to reconcile and unite for the sake of Egypt,” read a statement on group’s official Facebook page.
The Ultras Ahlawy replied with a "smiley face" symbol.
UWK made the move after the two groups clashed on Saturday following Ahly's day-16 match against Arab Contractors.
The UWK's statement also highlighted the groups' unity against state security forces.
The involvement of Ultras – hardcore football supporters – in politics has been significant this year, with many members attending demonstrations and dying in clashes with security forces.
