Mohamed Salah said he was not worried over taking a penalty which set Liverpool on their way to European Champions League glory on Saturday, likening it to the one he converted in 2017 which lifted Egypt to the World Cup final.

The 26-year-old showed nerves of steel to fire a powerful spot-kick straight into the middle as early as the second minute to put Liverpool ahead against Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid.

Divock Origi made sure of the win with a superb arrowed shot with three minutes remaining.

In October 2017, Salah ended the Pharaohs' 28-year wait for a World Cup appearance when he converted a stoppage-time penalty to give his national team a memorable 2-1 home victory over Congo.

When asked about the pressure of stepping up for an early penalty in the final, Salah told beIN Sports: "I shot the penalty which lifted us [Egypt] to the World Cup; I got used to penalties."

Salah became the first Egyptian and third Arab to win Europe's blue riband club competition after Porto's Algerian great Rabah Madjer and Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi, who is now on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

"I'm very, very happy. This is the kind of things that doesn't happen a lot in a lifetime. It's the dream of a seven or eight-year-old kid," he added.

"I'm determined to be the first Arab to win the competition twice. I'm already looking forward to the next season."
