Ahly's first-choice goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi is expected to keep his regular place in Egypt's starting line-up, thanks to some convincing displays in the latter stages of the season.

The30-year-old has established himself as Egypt's first-choice goalie since the 2018 World Cup, when he took over from iconic keeper Essam El-Hadary.

El-Shennawi made his international debut in March 2018 in a friendly game against Portugal. He grasped his chance with both hands and produced some impressive displays in Russia to cement his status, including a man-of-the-match performance in the opening 1-0 loss to Uruguay.

A 1.19m tall, he has a commanding presence in the air and is also hard to beat in on one-on-one situations.

Although Egypt coach Javier Aguirre gave the chance to some other keepers during recent friendly matches, El-Shennawi remained his undisputed choice in official games.

In his short international career, he kept a clean sheet in three out of nine games and conceded 10 goals in the remaining six encounters.
