Ibrahim Sannie tells The Associated Press that Annan has decided to stay in Gabon as Ghana prepares for Sunday’s quarterfinal match against Tunisia in Franceville.
The Ghana Football Association says it was “deeply saddened to hear of the death of the mother of Anthony Annan, Madam Sophia Sampson.”
The GFA says Annan’s mother died Thursday night after falling sick earlier in the day. It says “the coaches, players and staff will continue to offer him (Annan) our constant support.”
Annan started in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Guinea on Wednesday.
