Ahly international trio goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawi, striker Marwan Mohsen and defender Ayman Ashraf have been sidelined from the Red Devils' training session while winger Walid Soliman participated during the ongoing closed camp in Spain.

The Cairo giants' coach Martin Lasarte held a meeting with the international players after joining the squad in the Spain camp and informed them about the importance of the coming games in domestic competitions, the club's official website reported.

Ahly started their latest training camp in order to prepare for the last two rounds of the Egyptian Premier League, which will resume after the end of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The remaining games in the Egyptian Premier League, including the anticipated Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek, were pushed forward following the national team's exit from AFCON.

"Walid Soliman participated in Monday's training session while Ayman Ashraf, Marwan Mohsesn and Mohamed El-Shenawi missed it due to exhaustion," Ahly's doctor Khaled Mahmoud told reporters after the session.

Ahly will play their third friendly game late Monday against Spanish minor team UCAM Murcia FC after beating Soccer Smart team 3-0 and drawing 1-1 with Newport County AFC.

Ahly and Zamalek are vying for the league title in one of the tightest races in years.

Ahly, who are eyeing a fourth straight league crown, top the table with 74 points and two matches remaining, six ahead of Zamalek who still have three games remaining, including the Cairo derby.

Egypt were knocked out of AFCON 2019 on home turf in an embarrassing fashion, conceding a late goal to lose 1-0 to South Africa in the last 16.
