Aladdin’s Mena Massoud to attend third El-Gouna Film Festival

The Festival's third edition is taking place between 19 and 27 September in the coastal city of Gouna


Aladdin's Egyptian-born Canadian actor Mena Massoud is one of the Hollywood stars attending the third edition of El-Gouna Film Festival, taking place between 19 and 27 September in the coastal city of Gouna.

Massoud has recently been warmly celebrated in the Arab world after starring in the new record-breaking live action film 'Aladdin.’

Born to Egyptian parents and raised in Canada, Massoud is a relative unknown in Hollywood, having begun his career in Canadian cinema and television.

He was cast in Nikita (2011-2013) where he played a member of Al-Qaeda, and he has had roles in Combat Hospital (2011-) as well as the Canadian-American show Open Heart (2015).

In 2014, he acted in Canadian short comedy Americanistan where he portrayed a character named Mohammed Ali.

More recently he was cast in leading roles in Canadian films, including short drama Final Exam (2017) and drama mystery Ordinary Days (2017).

He was also cast in Strange But True (Canada), which is yet to premier.

The film Aladdin is an adaptation of the popular tale 'Alaa-Uddin and the Magic Lamp', which is one of the stories from the 18th century book ‘Alf Laila w-Laila’ (Arabian Nights).
