Egypt Olympic team manager Hany Ramzy has named a 29-man squad for the team’s closed training camp amid preparations for the 2012 London Olympics.

The camp is due to start on 13 February before the team fly to UAE four days later.

“The team will play two friendlies during the camp. The first one will be against Romania on 21 February and the second with Uzbekistan on the 24th before they travel to meet Spain on the 28th,” football director Alaa Abdel-Aziz told Ahram Online.

Ramzy dropped talented Masry keeper Ahmed El-Shennawey and Ismaily defender Ahmed Hegazy who starred in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) championships that enabled the team to gain their ticket to the 2012 London Olympics.

The young Pharaohs’ last appearance at the quadrennial showpiece came in 1992 in Barcelona, where they lost against Spain and Qatar, though they defeated Colombia, and failed to progress beyond the group stage.
