Egypt's Administrative Control Authority
Egypt's Administrative Control Authority (ACA) has raised over 400 corruption-related cases and taken legal action against more than 1,400 employees since the beginning of the year, a statement read on Tuesday.
The efforts are part of a government push to curb corruption, remove obstacles for development and improve Egyptians' quality of life, authority head Sherif Seif El-Din said in a statement.
The authority, responsible for enforcing law within state bodies, has generated EGP 2.4 billion ($145 million) to the state coffers over the past seven months by uncovering violations including squandering public funds, and tax and customs evasion.
The authority has also saved the state EGP 3.3 billion ($199.2 million) by introducing measures to control the country's food subsidy system and ensure that subsidies make it to those entitled to it, the statement added.
The authority has also moved to plug operational loopholes at 145 entities, seized 482 tons of bad food trades in domestic markets and corrected EGP 5.5 million ($332,000) worth of contracts.
Over the reported months, the authority has opened investigations more than 4,500 employees, ruling out 154 of them and solving 237 complaints by Egyptians.
