Egypt and Kuwait will work together to arrest and hand over suspects in cyber-related activities deemed a threat to national security of the two countries under a new agreement, Egypt's prosecutor-general said.

"The perpetrators of cybercrimes that undermine the Egyptian national security or aim to harm the economy who reside in Kuwait...will be arrested and handed over" to Egypt, and vice versa under the new agreement, Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek told Egypt's state news agency MENA.

"Since crime has become more complex and cross-border, no country can effectively confront it alone," Sadek added.

The agreement, signed between the top Egyptian and Kuwaiti prosecutors in Kuwait on Sunday, is expected to speed up legal proceedings and crack down on suspects wanted by the two countries, the senior judge said.

The deal is intended to boost joint judicial cooperation to combat all forms of crime, facilitate the exchange of information and speed up the handover of suspects. It also aims to develop the use of technology by members of the judiciary to stay on top of methods used by criminals.

The agreement, however, was not relevant to the eight Egyptians Kuwait handed over to Egypt in July which Kuwait said were members of a "terrorist cell" with ties to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, Sadek explained.

The militants, which the Kuwaiti interior ministry said had admitted to carrying out terrorist operations in their home country, were handed over to Egypt under security agreements between the two countries, he added.

Kuwait is one of Egypt's close Gulf allies.
