Pyramids FC on Thursday asked the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to appoint a foreign referee crew to officiate their Egypt Cup final against Zamalek, to take place at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday.
Pyramids FC requested foreign referees for most of their games in the Egyptian Premier League last season, and paid their fees, per federation rules.
The EFA's FIFA-appointed caretaker management committee, headed by Amr El-Ganainy, had recently said that it would not appoint foreign referees for any games in the new season, except for the Cairo derby game between Ahly and Zamalek, per league tradition.
Pyramids FC, formerly El-Assiouty, secured their first-ever Egypt Cup final by beating Petrojet 2-0 in the semi-finals on Monday.
Titleholders Zamalek are looking to take home another cup title having won five of the last six rounds of the domestic tournament.
The EFA had announced earlier on Thursday that 20,000 fans would be allowed to attend the game.
