Egyptian crime thriller Welad Rizk 2 (Sons of Rizk 2), premiered early August, topped box-office revenues this week, again ahead of El-Fil El-Azraq 2, with the figures released by distribution companies confirming that both films are the most commercially successful movies of the late-summer/Adha-Feast season.
Starring a host of popular actors such as Ahmed Ezz, Ahmed El-Fishawy, and Amr Youssef, Welad Rizk 2 is only EGP 6 million away of confirming its box-office domination of the season, gaining a total of EGP 90 million after the fifth week of its release.
Directed by Tarek El-Arian and written by Salah El-Gehiny, Welad Rizk is the story of four brothers who commit crimes to escape poverty.
Supernatural themes also proved successful. El-Fil El-Azraq 2 (The Blue Elephant 2), premiering for the seventh week, broke the EGP 96 million.
Directed by Marwan Hamed, El-Fil El-Azraq 2 is the sequel to the thriller drama based on the bestselling novel by the same name by Ahmed Mourad. The film stars Karim Abdel-Aziz, Hend Sabri, Eyad Nassar, Sherine Reda and part-one star Khaled El-Sawy.
Ahmed Helmy's comedy Khayal Maata (Scarecrow), directed by Khaled Marei, also starring Menna Shalaby and Khaled El-Sawy, came in third this season with EGP 35 million in revenues.
The sequel Al-Kenz II: Al-Hob wal Massir (The Treasure II: Love and Destiny), by director Sherif Arafa, scored EGP 6 million only, despite having on board a host of box-office stars such as Mohamed Saad and Mohamed Ramadan.
The figures above were obtained by Ahram Arabic Gate from distribution companies.
