Well-known Egyptian composer Rageh Daoud will introduce a new rendition of the famous 'Rubaiyat' (four line poems) by iconic Egyptian poet Salah Jaheen.
"The narrator will be actor Tawfik Abdel-Hamid and the flutist will be [Minister of Culture] Ines Abdel-Dayem," Cairo Conservatoire professor Daoud told Ahram Online.
Accompanied by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, the experienced performer will unveil his project in a concert at the main hall of the Cairo Opera House on Monday 23 September.
The composer of the new Mauritanian national anthem has composed scores for many iconic Egyptian films, collaborating with leading directors such as Daoud Abdel-Sayed, Inas El-Degheidy, and Mohamed Kamel Alqluoby.
Four of Daoud's most famous soundtracks were for Abdel-Sayed's films Kit Kat (1991), Sareq Alfarah (1995), Rasael Albahr (2010), and the director's most recent Extraordinary Abilities (2015).
The skillful pianist, who began his studies at the Cairo Conservatoire at the age of nine and obtained a graduate diploma from Vienna Academy, plays an active role in the music scene in Egypt and abroad.
His works are performed in Cairo and Alexandria as well as in Austria, Italy, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, the UK, Spain, Canada, Hungary and Poland.
Daoud has won several awards at cinema festivals, including at the Cairo International Film Festival, the Alexandria Film Festival, and the State Award of Encouragement.
Salah Jaheen is a pillar of vernacular poetry, a talented cartoonist and an accomplished screenwriter, whose talents flourished in all these realms with equal excellence, grace and inspiration.
