The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Egypt announced its partnership with Egyptian motorcyclist Ali Abdo to support him in his journey to set a third Guinness World Record for the greatest distance crossed on a motocross bike in 24 hours.
Abdo, who was the first Arab to break a world record in 2017, is planning on touring Egypt in a 100-day journey that will cover 25,000 km and 75 Egyptian cities by electric motorcycle.
By using electric motorcycles in lieu of traditional fuel consuming ones, Abdo aims to endorse Sustainable Development Goals as well as highlight the significance of lessening air pollution and other detrimental consequences of using petrol-based fuel.
The Alexandria-based adventurer/infrastructural architecture had first dispensed with his use of cars in 2009 and has since preferred the freedom that motorcycles offer him.
Abdo is also backed by the Egyptian ministries of youth and sports, environment, military production, and immigration, whose minister has selected him as ambassador for the new ‘Nothing like Egypt/ Mafish Zay Masr’ campaign.
This campaign will focus its efforts on shedding more light on Egypt’s history and heritage in addition to establishing a new identity for the country to better its international image and boost its tourism.
The UNDP in Egypt works with partners to promote development issues: sustainable development, eradication of poverty, gender equality, climate change, and environment.
