Egyptian jazz musician Yehia Khalil will start his new season with two concerts on 17 and 18 October at the Cairo Opera House and a third at Alexandria's Opera House on 31 October.

Khalil has spent the past few months abroad.

One of the pioneers of the jazz movement in Egypt, Khalil received the Cairo Opera House-bestowed Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to enriching musical life in Egypt last year.

Khalil had stated earlier to Ahram Online that he was preparing a new album, most of which was recorded in the US, in addition to a programme titled "Helm Yehia" powered by the Yehia Khalil Foundation for the Culture of Jazz Music, founded by Khalil and managed  by actress Mawey Kishk and writer Mohamed Khairy.

The “King of Jazz”, as his fans fondly call him, lived in Chicago in the 1960s and 70s, after joining the American Music Conservatory for two years. He played with many well-known international musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, Ginger Baker, Jeff Bush and Eric Clapton, before returning to Egypt.

Programme:
First two Concerts
Thursday and Friday 17 and 18 October at 8pm
Cairo Opera House, Zamalek

Third Concert
Thursday 31 October at 8pm
Alexandria Opera House
