The US supports Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan’s ongoing negotiations to reach a “cooperative, sustainable, and mutually beneficial agreement” on filling and operating the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the White House said on Thursday.

"All Nile Valley countries have a right to economic development and prosperity,” read a White House statement about the ongoing negotiations.

The US called on all sides “to put forth good faith efforts to reach an agreement that preserves those rights, while simultaneously respecting each other’s Nile water equities,” the statement added.

A new two-day round of talks between the three countries' irrigation ministers kicked off in Khartoum on Friday focusing on the proposals on filling the Ethiopian mega-dam and the outcome of meetings of the three-way technical committee that has been reviewing the issue.
