Egypt's Pyramids secured a vital away advantage in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoff round after beating Tanzania's Young Africans 2-1 on Sunday.

In-form Burkinabe winger Eric Traore put Pyramids ahead four minutes before the break with a precise low shot from inside the area after a lay-off from striker Dodo El-Gabbas.

Veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said added the second two minutes past the hour mark after finishing off a sweeping counter attack, slotting into an empty net after being fed by forward Mohamed Farouk.

Papy Kabamba Tshishimbi handed Young Africans a lifeline in stoppage time, giving them a glimmer of hope ahead of the return leg in Cairo as both sides chase a place in the group stage of Africa's secondary club competition.

Pyramids are making their first ever appearance in an African competition after finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League last season.
