Egyptian national circus artists Walid and Ahmed Yassin won prestigious awards at the Ha Long Bay International Circus Festival in Vietnam, which took place between 11 and 17 November.

The artists were awarded for their acrobatic performance.

The two brothers won their awards outside the festival's competition. One was granted by the event's management and the other by the festival's sponsor.

The festival hosted circus artists from 20 countries including Egypt, the US, Japan, Germany, Vietnam, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Cuba, Tajikistan, Iran, Brazil, Slovakia, Laos, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Mongolia.

The jury members represented circus performers from numerous countries including Italy, America, Canada, Mongolia, Russia, Bulgaria, and Vietnam.

Operating under the House of Folklore and Performing Arts of the Cultural Production Sector, the national circus was founded in the 1950s by members of El-Helw family and nationalised in 1960. However, the circus performance in Egypt is even older, with the first circus founded by Mohamed El-Helw in 1889.

Egyptian circus artists have garnered recognition in the region and internationally.
