Retired major general Abdel Moneim Kato has been fined LE10,000 for an astonishing outburst against anti-government protesters.
Kato stirred controversy both inside and outside Egypt in December last year after saying in the media that Egyptian protesters who camped out in Tahrir Square to demand an end to military rule should be “sent to Hitler’s ovens.”
Egypt’s ruling military, the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF), later distanced itself from Kato’s remarks.
It said it only posts its official statements on its official Facebook page.
