The Jordanian theatre play titled Barr ("Seashore") opened the Alexandria Theatre Festival for Specialised Institutes on 4 December, attracting large audiences to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Small Hall.

Barr is inspired by the play The Blind (Les aveugles) by the Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck.

Written and directed by Dalal Fayyad (Jordanian actress and theatre director), the play featured students of Jordan University's theatre department: Dana Abu Laban, Mohammed Abdel Baset, Hani Al-Khaldi, Mohammad Al-Marashdah, among others.

The Alexandria Theatre Festival for Specialised Institutes kicked off on 3 December and continues until 8 December in Alexandria.

Being the first of its kind festival in the Arab region, the festival showcases theatrical works by Egyptian and Arab students.

Apart from the 10 performances staged during the festival, several workshops are held for young theatre-makers.
