Spanish coach Jose Maqueda has left Ittihad by mutual consent following a meeting with the club’s chairman Effat El-Sadat on Wednesday.
‘’I am so sad to leave Egypt, but it was inacceptable to receive a salary without working especially that all the signs indicate that the Egyptian league will be cancelled,’’ Jose Maqueda told Ahram Online.
The Egyptian League has been suspended since the first of February, following the Port Said disaster which left more than 70 fans dead and hundreds injured.
The 42-year-old coach, a former manager of Real Madrid’s team B, took charge of the Alexandria-based club last summer. Under his guidance, Ittihad improved on their poor displays last season which saw them finish among the league’s bottom three.
They only survived relegation virtue of an abrupt change of regulations.
