Qatar was confirmed as hosts of a controversial edition of the African Super Cup in February, which Egypt's Zamalek are still refusing to play due to political tensions.

Cairo club Zamalek, who won the Confederation Cup last season, are scheduled to face Champions League winners Esperance of Tunisia in Qatari capital Doha on 14 February.

"QFA president Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani and CAF president Ahmed Ahmed signed an agreement to host the African Super Cup in Doha on 14 February 2020," the Qatar Football Association said on Twitter.

Zamalek's outspoken chairman Mortada Mansour repeatedly said his side were not going to play the match in Qatar, given its ongoing diplomatic rift with Egypt.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt imposed a boycott on Qatar in June 2017, accusing it of supporting terrorist groups. The tiny Arab Gulf nation denies the accusations.

It remains to be seen whether Mansour will make good on his vow, with Zamalek likely to be heavily punished by African governing body CAF should they withdraw from the Super Cup.

Mansour offered to play the game in Tunisia, before saying the matter was in the hands of Egyptian authorities, suggesting that Zamalek could agree to play if they are given the go-ahead.

CAF did not comment on his statements.

Zamalek won three African Super Cup titles, the last of which was in 2003 at the expense of Morocco's Wydad Casablanca.
